These updates made on February 6, 2007URGENT ACTIONS NEEDED NOW TO STOP THE WAR ON IRAN. Bush appears to be about to launch a new war, this time on Iran. This could happen in the next few months or maybe even in a few weeks. Robert Parry writes "Military and intelligence sources continue to tell me that preparations are advancing for a war with Iran starting possibly as early as mid-to-late February. The sources offer some differences of opinion over whether Bush might cite a provocation from Iran or whether Israel will take the lead in launching air strikes against IranÍs nuclear facilities. " This is one of a great number of articles that report a U.S. strike is near. So far Bush has said he will not be stopped even though a number of generals and Republican leaders have urged him to work for a peaceful solution. This war could be lead to a number of major problems including an economic crisis with oil prices going to record highs and an increase in hunger and poverty. Some are saying the United States has a plan to use small scale nuclear bombs to take out Iranian nuclear facilities. If the U.S. attacks Iran Food Not Bombs will need to mobilize much like we did with Katrina. We can not count on the government to provide food and supplies to the millions of people who could be displaced. Some Food Not Bombs groups are already starting to work with farmers to help grow and distribute food that could be needed as a result of a war on Iran and the increase in oil and food costs. Please ask the volunteers in your group to consider developing a plan in case of a crisis resulting from a war on Iran. also before such a war we can take action to stop it. Plan nonviolent direct actions in your community. Please let us know of your plans so we can let people know how to take part. Take action now by letting congress and the senate know you are against the attack on Iran. http://www.justforeignpolicy.org/involved/warpowers.htmlTHE OCCUPATION PROJECTVoices for Creative Nonviolence is organizing the Occupation Project, a campaign of sustained nonviolent civil disobedience aimed at ending the U.S. war in and occupation of Iraq. The campaign will begin the first week of February 2007 with occupations at the offices of Representatives and Senators who refuse to pledge to vote against additional war funding. We invite your participation and your organizationÕs endorsement. To become involved with this campaign, please contact us via phone at 773-878-3815 or via email, occupationproject@vcnv.org Read the campaign's foundational document: The Occupation Project: A Campaign of Sustained Nonviolent Civil Disobedience to End the Iraq War WOLRDWIDE WEEKEND OF ACTION TO END THE WAR IN IRAQUFPJ Calls for Local Actions on 4th Anniversary of the War in Iraq March 19th will mark the 4th anniversary of the U.S. military assault on Iraq and the beginning of what has turned into one of this nation's longest military engagements. Four years of war and occupation; four years of death and destruction; four years of a war that never should have happened. United for Peace and Justice is calling for a massive outpouring of opposition to the war in locally based, decentralized actions throughout the U.S. from Saturday, March 17th, through Monday, March 19th. Oaxaca RebellionFood Not Bombs has been invited to start kitchens in Oaxaca, Mexico to support the rebellion. We need as many volunteers willing to travel to Oaxaca as soon as possible. Conditions continue to deteriorate here as the state resorts to terrorist tactics in an effort to crush the now quite broad movement to remove the governor from office. There is far more than I can report in this note. George Salzman thinks the number of certified deaths was up to 5 by yesterday, and many have been injured, kidnapped and imprisioned.
One of the Oaxaca Study-Action Group members, Lois M. Meyer of the University of New Mexico , wrote on 22 Aug, "I emailed Ramiro Arag's wife the denunciation translated into English. She responded with the following brief and sobering message. Last Friday Ramiro was sentenced to 45 to 90 days in prison. She is hoping the letters of support will cause/force the judge to free him. "

Sonoma Food not Bombs joined th action and one volunteer from Californi was cited for sharing food with the hungry. The Orlando Food Not Bombs group is also sharing food in resistance to the new city law against feeding the hungry In another twist of U.S. legal logic two young men have been convicted and sentenced to six months in jail for getting some fruit and other items out of a dumpster in Steamboat Springs Colorado. Authorities said they took five cucumbers, four or five apricots, two bundles of asparagus spears and a handful of cherries from a garbage can at Sweet Pea Produce. Visit this website to find out how you can help Giles Charle and David Siller. Americans are tossing $100 billion of food a year according to Timothy Jones of the University of Arizona. END GOVERNMENT ATTACKS ON FOOD NOT BOMBSSeveral Food Not Bombs groups are still under threat by local police. It seems that each summer more Food Not Bombs groups face arrest than the year before. This year Venice California Food Not Bombs is under attack in what maybe one of the most important free speech cases in the United States. One volunteer Peggy Lee Kennedy was arrested while filmming the Los Angeles police as they were questioning other volunteers staffing the table. Food Not Bombs volunteers in Las Vegas , Nevada were issued tickets for sharing free food and volunteers with the Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada food Not Bombs have been told they will be arrested if they don't stop sharing food near city hall.
MORE CAMPAIGNS AND ACTIONS

GLOBAL WARMINGA campaign of nonviolent action to stop the causes of global warming. Global warming threatens all of us. We can stop this grave crisis if we unite in nonviolent direct action to stop corporate efforts to block the changes that we must take to slow global warming. Experts show that we must cut the use of coal, gas and other greenhouse gas causing industries bu 80 per cent today if we plan to save the world from global warming. Its important to stop driving and produce electricity from the wind and sun but an even more important action is to organize resistance to government and corporate policies that refuse to address the crisis with urgency we need if we hope to survive. Iraqi Pledge of ResistanceA campaign of nonviolent action to compel our representatives in Congress to meet the demands of justice and peace: End the War in Iraq! Not Another Death - Not Another Dollar!
Anti- McDonalds dayOctober 16, 2007 - For world Anti-McDonalds Day (Tuesday, 16 October) a mixed group of animal rights and anti-capitalist/globalisation protesters will gather outside their local McDeath to share free vegan meals and literature about the high cost of corporate greed.
End Torture by the United StatesNovember 17 - 18, 2007 Join these important protests outside the Headquarters for Army Intelligence Training Fort Huachuca, Arizona and The US Army School of Americas (SOA), based in Fort Benning, Georgia. The United States is training the world in torture and we are working to end this ugly practice.
Buy Nothing DayNovember 23, 2007 - Buy Nothing Day 2006 was a huge, shop-free success. Concern about the ecological, psychological and political consequences of our consumer culture inspired some seriously provocative actions and even a number of arrests (yikes!). Food Not Bombs groups share vegan meals at many of the Buy Nothing Day Actions. Organize someting in your community.

The first twenty six years of the Food Not Bombs movement.
Food Not Bombs is one of the fastest growing revolutionary movements and is gaining momentum throughout the world. There are hundreds of autonomous chapters sharing free vegetarian food with hungry people and protesting war and poverty. Food Not Bombs is not a charity. This energetic grassroots movement is active throughout the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. Food Not Bombs is organizing for peace and an end to the occupations of Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine. For over 25 years the movement has worked to end hunger and has supported actions to stop the globalization of the economy, restrictions to the movements of people, end exploitation and the destruction of the earth. The first group was formed in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1980 by anti-nuclear activists. Food Not Bombs is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to nonviolent social change. Food Not Bombs has no formal leaders and strives to include everyone in its decision making process. Each group recovers food that would otherwise be thrown out and makes fresh hot vegetarian meals that are served in outside in public spaces to anyone without restriction. Each independent group also serves free vegetarian meals at protests and other events. The San Francisco chapter has been arrested over 1,000 times in government's effort to silence its protest against the city's anti- homeless policies. Amnesty International states it will adopt those Food Not Bombs volunteers that are convicted as "Prisoners of Conscience" and will work for their unconditional release. Even though we are dedicated to nonviolence Food Not Bombs activists in the United States have been under investigation by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, Pentagon and other intelligence agencies. A number of Food Not Bombs volunteers have been arrested on terrorism charges but there has never been a conviction. Food Not Bombs is often the first to provide food and supplies to the survivors of natural disasters and terrorist attacks. During the first three days after the 1989 Earthquake, Food Not Bombs was the only organization in San Francisco providing hot meals to the survivors and the Long Beach chapter provided food after the North Ridge Earthquake. Food Not Bombs was also the first to provide hot meals to the rescue workers responding to September 11th World Trade Center attacks. Food Not Bombs volunteers were among the first to provide food and help to the survivors of the Asian Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. Our volunteers organized a national collection program and delivered bus and truckloads of food and supplies to the gulf region. We have been one of the only organizations sharing daily meals in New Orleans since Katrina. You can rely on Food Not Bombs in a disaster and we are ready to help in the future. Food Not Bombs works in coalition with groups like Earth First!, The Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, Anarchist Black Cross, the IWW, Homes Not Jails, Anti Racist Action, In Defense of Animals, the Free Radio Movement and other organizations on the cutting edge of positive social change and resistance to the new global austerity program. One collective publishes a movement wide newsletter called A Food Not Bombs Menu. Another hosts FNB News where you can learn more about the Food Not Bombs community. Food Not Bombs Publishing in Takoma Park, Maryland publishes books like On Conflict and Consensus which has been an important guide for group democracy. We hope you will join us in taking direct action towards creating a world free from domination, coercion and violence. Food is a right, not a privilege.
